Hi I’m a bit late with this weeks free crochet pattern.  With Halloween approaching it’s all go in the Dunn household.  Every year we host the family Halloween party.  This years theme is masquerade so we’re all very excited!  I’m even more excited to be sharing this awesome FREE pumpkin crochet pattern.

Whilst I like to buy some new decorations every year nothing quite beats a home made touch or two here and there, so of course I reached for my hook to see what I could come up with.

This pattern gives 2 sizes for the pumpkins a large and a small size.  The pattern is written in standard American terms.  I decided to go for an unorthodox green for my large one but you can pick what ever colours match your decorations.  I really fancy doing a sparkly purple one for next year!

MATERIALS

less than 1 skein of DK

4mm hook and 3mm hook

darning needle

scissors

stuffing

stitch marker

ABBREVIATIONS

CH – Chain

SC – Single Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

SS – Slip Stitch

BLO – Back Loops Only

MR – Magic Ring

PATTERN NOTES

This pattern has 2 sizes.  Numbers in [] are for the larger pumpkin.  CH 2 does not count as a stitch unless otherwise stated.  Pattern written in American standard terms.

MAIN BODY

crochet pumpkin pattern

Using a 4 mm hook.

R1     CH15 [33], DC in third CH from hook.  DC in every CH across.  CH2 and turn. (12) [30]

R2     DC in BLO in every stitch across.  CH2 and turn. (12) [30]

For small pumpkin continue until 20 rows have been completed.

For large pumpkin continue until 38 rows have been completed.

Once the required number of rows have been finished slip stitch the last row at the end and fasten off with a large tail.  Using a darning needle thread your tail along the ends of the rows and pull tight so that the end of the piece closes up forming a bowl shape.  Stitch over the end and secure by weaving in the ends.  It should look like this.
